  RoHS and WEEE Directives

The WEEE (Waste Electrical and Electronic Equipment) directive and the RoHS (Restoration of Hazardous Substances) directive work hand in hand to help implement environmental policy in the European Union (EU).

The RoHS directive restricts the use of mercury, lead, hexavalent chromium, cadmium and certain flame retardants in most new electrical and electronic equipment.

The WEEE directive controls the disposal and recycling of electrical and electronic equipment.

Ombu can help you comply with the RoHS directive using new technology based on X-ray Fluorescence (XRF) Spectrometry. These devices are typically hand held or mounted in a test stand and use x-rays to determine the elemental composition the item under test.

Because they employ ionizing radiation (x-rays), the devices are subject to Federal or State regulations.

Ombu can help you implement a Radiation Control Program for these devices. The Ombu approach integrates the Radiation Protection Program into your company’s Quality Management System. The regulations require written procedures, audits, corrective action, and management review. The integrated program helps you develop a complaint Radiation Protection Program using the existing framework. The approach helps you reduce cost and reduce the risk on non-compliance.

Our approach is project oriented, working with you to set the scope, deliverables, and timing of the project. We can provide MS Project plans as well as regular status reports.
